The goal of the workshop is to bring biological and computational scientists
together to discuss whole genome comparison at three levels:
- Whole genome sequence comparison, including the implications for
identification of protein coding and regulatory regions and the origin and role
of non-coding DNA.
- Whole genome map comparison, including the importance of spatial genomic
organization and the role of duplications and rearrangements in genome
evolution and structure.
- Functional genomic comparison: comparison of comprehensive functional data
sets such as the set of orthologs, protein folds, expression patterns,
pathways or protein-protein interactions found in a given organism.
Work that addresses whole genome comparison on two or more of these levels is
of particular interest. The workshop will focus on research comparing the
genomes of different organisms, as well as the comparison of a single genome
with itself.
