I appreciate that you didn't just let my application go for lack of the letters. I did not ask for a letter because I am an odd candidate. I am a professor, for many years now. I have been working on HIV for about 8 years and on endemic diseases in Africa and other regions for about 16 years. I have a number of publications in the field. What I really need at this point is more math for the model of complexity of disease transmission that I am trying to develop. I figured that the letter from the faculty member was about promise of scholarship (not the issue here) and from the mentor about the collaboration. I actually do plan to collaborate with a new faculty member from Gettysburg who has also applied, Prof. Christina Hayes. So I hope I have not been presumptuous in not sending letters. I also hate to bother my very busy friends who have written letters for me recently. I have sent Brenda Latka my statement of interest and C.v. and am hoping you can let me sit in, even though I am well past graduate school.
