Workshops for parents

STAFFORD -- A FANS workshop to inform parents of Middles School pupils about New Jersey's new standards in math, science, and technology is scheduled for 7 p. m. Tuesday in Southern Regional High School.

The workshop will help parents understand the new standards and how they can help heir children to achieve them.

"Parental involvement plays a pivotal role in the educational success of our students," and Karlheinz Hass, district supervisor of math, science and technological education. "In today's world, high standards in math, science and technology are necessary."

FANS stands for Families Achieving the New Standards. It is a statewide project sponsored by the New Jersey Mathematics Coalition and funded by the National Science Foundation.

At the end of the workshop, parents will receive materials, including a collection of activities they can do at home with their children.

The workshop will be presented by Southern Regional math educators who were trained by the NJ Math Coalition to become workshop leaders. Parents interested in attending are asked to return a flier sent home with students or to call Southern Regional at 597-9481, ext. 263, before Monday.
